Monkey Forest in Ubud is one of the main attractions. The thing that makes it handy, is its located on the loop around downtown Ubud. One of Bali’s famous expats was Adrien Jean Le Mayeur de Merpes, a Belgian painter, who came to Bali in 1932. His story is that after travelling the world, and painting scenes of places such as Benares in india, he came too Bali, living first close to Denpasar. Located on the north coast on Bali, Lovina enjoys warner water than the south coast and way less waves. Perfect for some leisurely watersports. Lovina has a selection of dive centers, offering trip to Menjangan island to the west and bali sightsTulamben to the east. Local watersports can be located at ‘Spice Beach‘.Bali is rich in history and tradition. With various waves of migration from Java, the cultural complexity was amplified. One of the stranger examples of things getting twisted is the caste system, whereby descendents of the masses, merchants, warriors & kings, and priests, are indentified by name. On the outskirts of Ubud in the village of Lod Tunduh, there is a sign on the road, indicating a jewelry museum, named Museum RUNA, just 500 meters away. Visitors to Ubud usually end up at a temple dance.
Most of the Balinese people are involved in agriculture, primarily rice cultivation. Crops grown in smaller amounts include fruits, vegetables and other cash crops. A significant number of Balinese are also fishermen. Bali is also famous for its artisans who produce batik and ikat cloth and clothing, wooden carvings, stone carvings and silverware.By that I don’t mean dressing sexy and grinding on the dance floor, I mean watching Balinese people perform traditional Balinese dances.
Ubud has some great museums such as the ARMA, Neka and Museum Blanco, Ubud also has some great smaller museums and here are a few Museum Puri Lukisan This museum of fine arts is located in downtown Ubud, off of Jl. Raya Ubud.
Negara isn’t the only place in Bali where you can see a buffalo race. The sport is popular in Lovina, to be exact, in the village of Kaliasem. The tradition originated in Madura, is NE Java. Settlers brought it to both Kaliasem and Negara. Bali has a wealth of ‘monkey forests’ and a while back, the Sanggeh Monkey Forest is probably the most famous. Getting to Sanggeh Monkey Forest from Kuta, you could take the Sunset Rd to Kerobokan, then head up to Sempidi, Kapal, Mengwi, Abeansemal and then hit Sanggeh. The Butterfly Park in Tabanan is one of the smaller attractions within reach for people in the Kuta area. The nightlife in Bali is one of the main attractions for many tourists but sensible precautions are required. Travelling alone is unwise. Take care to ensure that your drink could not be spiked at any stage and do not walk at night, use an authorised taxi where possible. The level of HIV infection among the bar workers is high and close personal contact is very unwise.
