Bali Food

Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008

The attraction of the Indonesian island of Bali and its unique cuisine are brought to life with this unique collection of 75 lavishly illustrated recipes introducing Bali’s most popular delicacies.

Rice and the accompanying dishes are cooked in the morning, after a trip to the market, and left in the kitchen for the family to help themselves bali foodto whenever they are hungry.

Daily meals, which are eaten only twice a day (with plenty of snacks in between), are not sociable affairs. The Balinese normally eat quick, silently and alone, often a corner of the kitchen or perhaps sitting on the edge of one of the open pavilions in the family courtyard.
Balinese chickens are much healthier and have the taste of real chicken, but can be tougher than Western battery-fed chickens. Battery-fed chickens only live for 41 days, specially and artificially bred to produce large chunks of breast and short legs. The rush is now on to reduce the period of 41 days.

‘Glory Restaurant’. Is where you can get a taste of Balinese food, I tell them ‘in a Balinese village’. When they if there is anywhere around the Kuta area, that specializes in Balinese food.
Important are the different kind of chillies as well as some banana-leafs for wrapping special meals and of course many shallots and garlic.
Diners may enjoy old time local and western favourites, whilst the gastronomically adventurous could tempt their taste buds with fusion cuisine at

Sedap Fun Food Restaurant
A favourite is Gado-Gado, a dish of chilled boiled vegetables with a delicious, thick, sticky peanut sauce.
There are a lot of small food stalls (warungs) that serve small snacks and where the local people eat. The food can be good, but the hygiene is usually more than questionable.

McDonald’s:
According to McDonalds website, there are no restaurants in Indonesia, but I can assure you they are here. McDonalds can be found at Kuta Square, Jl. Legian in Legian, Jimbaran on the Bypass, Sanur Bypass and on Jl. Pantai Kuta at Kuta Beach. I’m sure there are others but official info in hard to find. I don’t eat at McDonalds so am not really am expert on their menu or prices. If you even care about what’s on McDonalds menu be sure to check it out when you go into a McDonalds in Bali.

KFC:
Here is a page with info on KFC in Bali. The menu includes chicken pieces, including a chicken bucket, chicken sandwich, spaghetti, and as in every Indonesian restaurant, nasi (rice). You can find some outlets in Sanur, Kuta, Denpasar.

Pizza Hut:
This American pizza chain has a website to allow diners to gain information to their product. I know there are 3 locations in Bali, at Jl. Kartika Plaza, Jl. Pantai Kuta and Jl. Diponegoro in Denpasar. Ika and I went a couple of weeks ago and what showed up was something that looked like a pizza, had tasty sauce on, but after a couple of bites, was obviously not pizza, more like fluffed up bread. They try hard with the kids giving out balloons, but the food will give you guy ache. My’fruit punch’ had so much sugar in I could drink 2 gulps.
